Caliente Blog Hop!

CONGRATULATIONS LENI! YOU WIN A COPY OF SURRENDER TO DESIRE!

Okay, we were told to write something hot. I immediately thought about the heat here in Florida. I doubt that's what the blog hop organizer had in mind. Hot food, hot sun, hot sex? Oh yeah! That would kind of make sense, wouldn't it? An erotic author writing about hot sex? My next thought was, so what will I write about hot sex?

Then I started thinking about a post I'd written eons ago about sex toys. I got a lot of comments on that post, and have to admit it was educating as well as very interesting. I'd focused on antique sex toys. I was amazed, during my research, how long sex toys have been around. And how primitive some of them were. So, here goes. What do you think about these examples and if you lived back then, do you think you would have used them?

I blogged about these 10 and 11 inch, French wooden phallus toys a while ago. They're made

of rosewood, are from the 1700's, and I found them fascinating. I also couldn't help thinking that they looked like something that could be used as a torturous device because they're so hard and unbending. How would you disinfect them after use? And just think of the splinters!

Next we have these interesting, ah, vibrators. This one to the left actually looks like something you'd whip up some frosting with. Doesn't it look like a kitchen tool? Did you know that the first vibrator in history may have been invented by Egyptian Queen Cleopatra? The gossip vine whispers that she had the idea of filling a hollowed out gourd with bees. Angry bees that is. The buzzing caused the gourd to vibrate. Sounds feasible.

Then we have the steam powered vibrator from the 1800's. Talk about primitive! It's obvious which piece does the trick, but it looks hard to handle. Wouldn't this take two hands to operate? And how would you inconspicuously masturbate with this big, clunky thing between your legs? You know you do it, ladies, while lying next to your sleeping partner. This is about the most unromantic device I've ever seem. No thank you.

The oldest sex toy in the world—a siltstone phallus—was discovered in Germany and is said to have also been used as a tool to start fires. Really? I thought all sex toys were supposed to start a fire. Duh! The 30,000-year-old artifact was
found in a cave, in pieces, and was later put back together. The prehistoric object features carved rings around one polished end, in addition to indented areas on the tool where it was struck against flints to ignite fires. Apparently this was a two-in-one tool.  Convenient, huh?

Well, if these sex toys don't make you hot there must be something wrong with you. Don't even get me started about what the so-called experts are saying about pearls. I have a beautiful strand of pearls that I save for special occasions, and sticking them up where the sun don't shine isn't one of them! LOL I plan to give those pearls to my granddaughter on her wedding day.

Love this, Tory! I'd seen that mechanical, uh, thing before and, like you, can't really imagine it in action. That's hilarious that Cleopatra had the idea of a bee-filled vibrator! What a fun post. Have fun on the hop!

So, just saw the rafflecopter question - "Caliente" makes me think of food. Like, I'd expect some sort of yummy, rich Caliente sauce at a fancy Mexican restaurant.

I love looking back in time to see how things have changed and what is similar. If I had to choose out of all of these it would be the siltstone phallus. The fire starting part makes me smile and that did it for me.
