Do I need it, or do I want it? The truth is we all need things but I think sometimes we want them more. Why can't we be happy with what we have? If it's not broke, don't fix it. Right? As I get older, I want less. A lot less. Things I thought were important when I was younger I could care less about now.
Family, health, just plain enjoying life have taken the place of material things that will be here long after I've gone. Now that's something I need and want.

How Fights Start
One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift..The next year, he didn't buy her a gift. When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"And that's how the fight started.....

When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed.But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the truck, the car, playing golf 'Always something more important to me.Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass,busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors.I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, 'When you finish cutting the grass,you might as well sweep the driveway.'The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Welcome Author Anida Adler
Author Anida Adler has taken some time out of her busy schedule to drop by and tell us a little about herself and her current work.

What's the one thing, word, element, etc. that readers won't see in any of your books?
Wow. This is a really difficult question to answer. I don’t want to preclude any life situations I might throw my characters into. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to never say never.
One term you won’t find me using, or which I’d be aghast to discover I slipped up with, is the term ‘continue on’. To my mind, the only context in which those two words go together is ‘he continued on his way’. To say ‘he continued on to the castle’ is something I’d only do if I’ve lost my marbles completely. Continue means ‘go on’, so if you say ‘continue on’ you are saying ‘go on on’.
However, language is a living, changing entity, and as what I consider to be incorrect use of ‘continue’ is ever more widespread these days, I think it will inevitably be accepted as correct, if in fact it isn’t already.
What comes after The Ancient? Any new series in the works?
I’m usually a very prolific writer (I wrote eight novels in 2008), though this year has been a very rough one for me and I haven’t been as productive as I usually am. That said, this year did see the release of the first Irish mythology-inspired novel I wrote, The Pebble, through Amira Press. Tadhg and Morrigán appear briefly in this tale. I became intrigued by their story, so I had to write it. The Pebble is published under the name Nadia Williams, as it is a much different novel in terms of heat level and story development. Both stories stand alone, of course, I dislike series where you have no clue what’s happening if you haven’t read all of them. Anida is my naughtier side, and will bear responsibility for all my steamier stories. The Ancient is, I personally think, steamy enough to sauna in.
At present, there are several stories queueing in my head. I’ve started work on Nuada’s story and am quite far into it, but hit a snag with story development and laid it aside for a few months. In the meantime, I’m working on a story tentatively entitled Soul Binder. It involves characters from the hidden world, the third realm of the Tuatha De Dannan. Right in the middle of that I realised where I'd gone wrong with Nuada's story, so now I'm racing to finish Soul Binder so I can get back to Nuada.
What's your favorite holiday and why?
I love cycling, and have been neglecting it far too much this year. I have a blog dedicated to my cycling adventures - http://nadiacycles.blogspot.com - where those so inclined can read more.
Would you ever consider mentoring an aspiring author?
I would not only consider it, I’m doing it already. Every Thursday, I lead a writers’ workshop for teenagers through a local organisation, the Apple Tree Foundation http://www.appletreefoundation.ie/ It’s an absolute joy to encourage young talent to bloom.
How did you come up with the name of your current series?
The series hasn’t been named yet, but the name of this book was easy. Story ideas come to me when I ponder how someone facing either a specific situation or specific personality traits would achieve a certain goal. When I ‘met’ Morrigán and Tadhg, I became ever more intrigued by how on earth these two got together. They were perfect for each other, but not at first glance. The central question was, how could Morrigán, being an Ancient, ever love anyone? Ah, I'm getting all excited even writing that.
Finish the thought: If I didn't make one cent off anything I've written, __________ …I would still write. I have a blog reserved for private writing thoughts shared with fellow slaves of words, though I seldom post there any more. Have you attended any book conventions or signings?
I’ve only attended one conference, the Phoenix Convention, in Dublin earlier this year. It was great fun and I learned a lot. One niggle I picked up from there was a kind of looking down on the fact that my first book had been published electronically. I would love to be a raging success as an e-published author, just for the joy of going back there and speaking to a certain author who had dissed the industry most severely.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I love Ireland, and will not move away from here. So physically, I’ll still live in my adopted country.
In terms of goals, I hope over the coming years to delight others with my stories. I don’t have dreams of bestsellerdom and fame, but it would be awesome to find enough readers who will be delighted and entertained to justify to my poor long suffering husband the massive amount of work I put into writing.
What's your one guilty pleasure?
I smoke.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
I would not smoke.
What makes you happy?
My whole life makes me happy. Having seen the misery so many people live in firsthand, I am very aware every day of what a privileged life I lead.
What are you wearing right now?
Haaa… this question is more loaded than you’d think. I’m wearing black jeans, a purple long sleeved tee shirt and hiking boots. However, clothes are very important to me, not in terms of being dressy, but in terms of expressing who I am.
Before we moved to Ireland, I wore dungarees. Short ones in summer, longs in winter. I so seldom wore anything else that I remember it being weird to feel something tight around my waist when I went out anywhere I could not wear dungarees, in which case I'd wear jeans. I left my beloved dungarees behind, and I’ve regretted it since. Dungarees very much express precisely who I am. They’re comfortable, practical, durable, and they don’t flaunt what you’ve got. However, they’re more sexy than you’d think.
What do you do to get into the writing mode?
I exist. The trick is to get out of writing mode and rejoin reality long enough to remember to do the dishes. That’s a secret I have yet to discover.

“Irritation, Tadhg. I have no sympathy for humans’ emotions. When I discern the utter stupidity they allowed to rule their lives, all I want to do is throttle them, help them into the afterlife even faster than they’re due to enter it. It is no less than they deserve for wasting such a precious gift as life.”
“Oh.” He snapped his fingers. “That must be why you sat in the dark for hours feeling so depressed, you’d have killed yourself if you could.”
She turned from him, yanked a curtain away from a shelf, dropped it, and moved on to the next. “Ha!” She grabbed a bottle of wine. The cork sprang from the neck as if it was champagne. He didn’t miss the tremor of her fingers as she poured. “You think what you feel is love. How can that be? We’ve known each other no more than days, poet. Love is something that grows over years, like a strong oak.”
“And I know what I feel for you is the healthy sapling that will grow to a mighty tree.”
She swallowed half the glass and slammed it down on the table. “What you feel, human, is lust. No more, no less.”
“That is not true.”
“Oh?” She smiled. No trace of warmth in the gesture, she turned to him and put a hand on his shoulder. A tingle of awareness shivered over his skin. Slowly, she traced a trail over his chest, down to his navel. Warm, sweet sexual energy flooded his muscles, suffused his blood, and pooled in his groin. “What do you feel when I touch you, then? A warm sensation in your heart?”

Good Info from Doctor
His practice has no room for new patients! Now, he's a medical wizard!I love this DoctorQ: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speed up heart not make live longer; that like say you can extend life of car by driving faster. Want live longer? Take nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So, steak nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give 100% recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take water out of fruity bit; get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: If you have body and you have fat, ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Cannot think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No Pain...Good!
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only do sit-ups if want bigger stomach.

Love Making Tips
...for seniors

1.Wear your glasses. Make sure your partner is actually in the bed.
2. Set timer for 3 minutes, in case you doze off in the middle.
3. Set the mood with lighting. (Turn them ALL OFF!)
4. Make sure you put 911 on your speed dial before you begin.
5. Write partner's name on your hand in case you can't remember.
6. Use extra polygrip so your teeth don't end up under the bed.
7. Have Tylenol ready in case you actually complete the act.
8. Make all the noise you want... The neighbors are deaf too.
9. If it works, call everyone you know with the good news!
10. Don't even think about trying it twice.

Only in the movies
Where else would you see a couple take up where they left off after being apart for two years, as if the last time they saw each other was the day before? That doesn't happen in real life. I know myself that when I see someone for the first time after not seeing them for a long time it's kind of awkward at first. Neither know what to say. And two years? You're really strangers again.
I got caught up watching an old western last night and didn't crawl into bed until almost two o'clock. Pretty unusual for me. I don't think I've made it past midnight in a long, long time. My daughter and niece make fun of me because I always tell them if they call during the week to make it before nine.
Can't recall the name of the movie but it was kind of a romance. The hero and heroine were separated for a couple years and when they saw each other again it was like they'd never been a part. Kissed and told each other they loved one another. Now come on...that wouldn't happen today! I'm not waiting around two years for some dude to make up his mind whether he wants me or not. And back then, they never knew if they'd see each other again.

Oh Man...
Ever have one of those weeks? Is there a full moon or something? I missed my dad's birthday. I know, I'm the worst daughter ever! But I've always been terrible with remembering dates. As soon as I realized it I called him, though. I think I'll send him a tin of his favorite nuts to make up for it.
Then tonight I missed my monthly pedicure. I look forward to that every 3 weeks. I get home from work late to see I had a 4:15 appointment. Dang it! Not only a pedicure but a manicure, too:(
Hopefully I won't miss my hair appointment tomorrow!

Women have flaws...WHAT?!!!!

Coincidence or...coincidence?
I'm beginning to think my daughter and I have a strong, if not strange, connection. As my only child we've always been close, nothing strange about that. Aren't most mothers and daughters? But our bond seems to go beyond wanting to spend time together, talking on the phone a few times a week, and thinking a like.
Sometimes we have similar dreams, about family members. But the strangest? We often times have the same symptoms. And by that I mean we'll have headaches at the same time, flu like symptoms, things like that. I didn't even think about it until a co-worker commented that she noticed it.
One morning this week I woke up head achy, a little sick to my stomach. Just plain didn't feel good. But I forced myself to go to work because I'm rarely sick and when I do get something it doesn't last. I figured as the day went on I'd feel better.
Later that same morning my daughter called. As we were talking she asked me what was wrong and I told her I didn't feel all that great. She said, yeah, I've been kind of nauseous and have a head ache, too. Alivia has the flu. And I thought, okay, that explains it. I'm getting the flu because I'd spent a couple days with them and on one of those days Alivia had the runs.
As the day went on I felt worse so my co-workers made me go home. On the way I stopped at my doctors and they took a test, which came back negative. I didn't have the flu. So I went home, took a couple Tylenol and fell into bed. A few hours later I woke, feeling good. Not great, just good.
The next day I went into work everyone was surprised to see me, considering how I looked the day before. One said, you were as white as a sheet. I can't believe you're here. That same co-worker said later, out of the blue, "Do you remember when Michelle was pregnant and you had morning sickness symptoms the same times she did?"
I said yeah. How could I forget? Didn't realize it at the time but later when Michelle and I would talk we'd discover we'd both felt sick around the same times. My co-worker then said, "wasn't she feeling sick yesterday, too?"
I just looked at Mel, and then it hit me, what she was leading up to. She was right! I never thought much about it before. Sometimes I can be dense. But realizing that somehow made me feel good. What a cool bond we have! If...that's what it is.

What's the one thing, word, element, etc. that readers won't see in any of your books?
Readers of the Green Stone of Healing® series will not be treated, if that is the word, to snarky attitude, incomprehensible stream-of-consciousness bullshit, or ambivalence. It may seem clever to some authors, but it is repugnant to me as a reader, and I won’t allow it in my prose, fiction or nonfiction.
What comes after the Green Stone of Healing® series? Any new series in the works?
The Green Stone of Healing® series covers four generations of characters, and the first-generation heroine lives through at least six books. So there’s a way to go. But I have new, related projects in the back of my mind. One is a series about the founding of Azgard and the other tells the story of the doomed romance between the first-generation heroine’s parents.
What's your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas, although I am not a Christian. Christmas Eve especially is a magical time and represents for me the renewal of hope and possibility, even as winter sets in. It’s also a great occasion to party with loved ones and friends.
Would you ever consider mentoring an aspiring author?
Of course. My first piece of advice would be to try something else besides writing, because writing is the Rodney Daingerfield of the world of commerce, industry, and politics. It don’t get no respect. Even worse, few recognize poor writing when they read it, so you won’t earn any brownie points for writing well. Only if you get up every morning and cannot imagine doing anything else except sitting down and writing should you pursue writing as a career or avocation. It is utterly consuming, rather lonely, and usually very poorly compensated. How’s that for encouragement? I prefer the cold honest truth.
How did you come up with the name of your current series?
It fell into my mind one day when my partner and I were trying to come up with a name. When that happens I know the information I am receiving is coming from somewhere outside of my own awareness, so I pay attention to it.
Finish the thought: If I didn't make one cent off anything I've written, I know my fiction has profoundly changed and healed my life, the lives of family and friends, and now the people who are reading it.
Have you attended any book conventions or signings?
I have attended book conventions, the last in 2001. I really am too busy writing to go, and book signings are problematic for a POD author like me.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Writing the later books in the series and still pursuing my political columns.
Which one of your The Green Stone of Healing heroines do you relate to most?

I believe that I lived as past life as first-generation heroine Helen Andros, and identify with her very much. We both always have an opinion. My hope is that I have learned to be a little more diplomatic in expressing my opinions (not always, though). We both relish a fight with the powerful and try to stick up for the underdog.
What's your one guilty pleasure?
Ice cream. Yummy! No guilt. Just pure gastronomic bliss.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
I would restore hearing to my left ear, which went deaf from an acoustic neuroma (tumor of the ear nerve) about a decade ago. I cannot imagine life without sound, and having only one functioning ear has made me keenly appreciative of the hearing I do have.
What makes you happy?
Loving and being loved by my best friend and partner. Eating ice cream. Laughing at squirrels’ antics. Watching the silly lizards chase bugs on the screen door late at night. A good joke. Just small, simple things, really.
What are you wearing right now?
Not enough to go out in public!
What do you do to get into the writing mode?
Get up and sit in front of my computer. I spent many years as a reporter for newspapers with multiple daily deadlines. I am always in writing mode. I don’t even need the computer part, either. Just hand me something to write with and a scrap of paper, and I’m off and scribbling.
The series features four generations of strong-willed female characters who inherit a mysterious green gem ultimately revealed to mend broken bones and broken hearts, protect against missiles, and render its wearers undetectable.

DON'T BREAK THE ELASTIC!
I don't know what year this interview happened and I've seen it before. But it's worth reading again and I thought some of you might enjoy it.
In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70 birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting.'
Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first. The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such an honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!
Maya Angelou said this: "I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
"I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
"I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.
"I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same thing as 'making a life.'

What Labor Day Means

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
If there's one holiday we should have off...with pay...it's Labor Day. Don't you agree? I'm old enough to remember the days when most businesses were closed on the weekends. And they ran from 8:00-5:00 closing for an hour lunch. I remember business closing on major holidays...all day.
Weekends were for families. A time when the worker could unwind, chill, rest up for the week. I remember eagerly looking forward to every holiday because I knew I'd be out of school or off from work. Nowadays you get to leave early on a holiday. Not too many businesses close down completely. And I think that's sad. Less time at home, less family life. Maybe if we went back to the good ole days there'd be less crime in the world today. More good people.
I asked to have today off, as did a few others in my area. The office isn't closed. And I feel for my one co-worker who will hold down the fort. I think we should take a page from the banks and post offices. When they're closed, everyone should be closed.
There are some holidays that should be observed the way they were meant to be.

Well...
Nutrisystem is out! Now don't go all ballistic on me and give me hell. I have my reasons. And I might as well admit that I've been off it since my dad left, right after the 4Th of July weekend.
Even though I've stopped the program I've kept up trying to eat halfway right. Especially during the week when I'm at work. I'm still snacking on those damn blueberries, eating yogurt, cottage cheese and weight watchers meals. Man have blueberries gone up in the stores! This week they were $3 for half of what I got last week.
Baby steps, right? I know I have a long battle a head of me and if I just eat healthier and don't lose a pound I figure I'm still ahead of the game. I've lost a total of 17 pounds and I do plan to lose more. The main thing is that I feel better and that's all that matters.

Sunday
I have to work tomorrow but I don't care. I'll be the only one in the office so it will be quiet. I usually get a lot more work done when I'm alone. Don't get me wrong, I love my co-workers. But when we're all together, well, you know how it is.
Sunday's are always quiet anyway as there's usually only two of us in the office. Rita has off the next two day's. I can't complain as I've been off since Wednesday and I get Labor Day off:) Another short week for me.
My goal is not to work any more than I have to:) Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Who doesn't like Baby Backs?
I love them! I've only found one restaurant that makes them almost as good as I do:) Okay, tooting my own horn here but with my home made barbecue sauce they come out finger licking good. Just dripping off the bone! And we're gonna have them for dinner tonight. Here's how I make them.cut a rack up in about 3 to 4 ribs in a set
boil the hell...I mean heck out of them (hours) until they're tender but not falling off the bone
then slip them into the oven for about a half hour slathered in BB sauce, turn them over once
MY BARBECUE SAUCE:
WARNING...I don't measure anything so you're on your own here, sorry
ketchup
vinegar
garlic salt
pepper
dark brown sugar
parsley
onion salt
Mix all together to make a thick sweet paste...sounds yummy doesn't it? LOL If you get the right formula is is the best! Honestly, you can't screw it up. It all depends on if you want sweet or tart. I like sweet.
Slather it on pre-boiled ribs and pop them in the oven of about 350 for 15 minutes on each side. I suppose you can broil them too but I bake them.
Oh I can't wait for dinner!
